Driver caught for traffic offences at Bungama

A man has been reported for traffic offences after a stop at Bungama on Easter Sunday.

Just before 1.30am on Sunday 31 March police were conducting speed detection duties on The Augusta Highway when they detected a Holden sedan travelling at 130km/h in a 100km/h speed zone.

The vehicle was stopped and the driver was submitted to a roadside drug test where he allegedly returned a positive result to methamphetamine. Checks on his licence also revealed that he was driving with a expired Northern Territory learners licence.

Patrols searched the vehicle and located a small amount of cannabis and drug paraphernalia.

The driver a 25-year-old man from Darwin was issued with a expiation notice for speeding and possession of drugs.

​He was issued with a direction not to drive and pending results of a forensic analysis may face drug driving charges.
